Nine Killed in Israeli Attacks in Southern Lebanon Amidst Ceasefire Violations

The southern Lebanese region has once again become the scene of deadly violence, with Israeli attacks resulting in the deaths of at least nine people and injuring 23 others. The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health confirmed the casualties, tragically including two minors, following strikes near the city of Nabatiyeh.

While the Israeli army claims to have targeted Hezbollah military installations, the Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun, has strongly condemned what he described as a "continuous Israeli violation" of the existing ceasefire. President Aoun emphasized the urgent need for international pressure to compel Israel to adhere to international law and conventions, and to halt its attacks on civilians, rescue workers, civil defense forces, and humanitarian organizations.

This escalation occurs against a backdrop of a fragile ceasefire that has been repeatedly breached by both Hezbollah and Israel since April 17th. Lebanon, though not a direct party to the wider conflict, was drawn into the regional tensions in early March when Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel, prompting Israeli ground incursions. The ongoing hostilities underscore the precarious peace in the region and the critical importance of upholding the ceasefire for any potential peace talks to progress, as stipulated by President Aoun.
