Nine Men and Nine Women Form New Colombian Cabinet

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella has named his new cabinet, a gender-balanced team of nine men and nine women, following his inauguration in Cali. This diverse group will form the government of Colombia's first far-right administration.

Economist and academic José Manuel Restrepo will serve as vice president. Among the appointed ministers is a figure with a significant military background, who previously commanded the Army's Eighth Division and led the Special Forces Division. This individual also held intelligence roles and was involved in combating drug trafficking and transnational threats, including advising on strategic planning for the Inter-American Defense Board in Washington.

Another cabinet member combines public sector experience with private enterprise roles. This individual previously chaired the Foreign Trade Bank (Bancóldex) and served as ambassador to France. The composition of the cabinet reflects a blend of expertise across various sectors deemed crucial for the new administration.

The appointment of this cabinet follows de la Espriella's inauguration, signaling the official commencement of his presidential term. The government's agenda is expected to address key national issues, with the newly appointed ministers set to lead their respective departments.
