NIS warns public against fake immigration websites, scammers

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding fraudulent websites and scammers impersonating its official platforms. In a statement released via social media, the NIS urged all applicants to exclusively use authorized portals for immigration-related services, including passports and visas.

The warning became necessary to protect Nigerians and foreign nationals from fraudulent websites designed to exploit unsuspecting applicants seeking passport, visa and other immigration services.

The warning aims to protect both Nigerian citizens and foreign nationals from falling victim to fake websites designed to exploit individuals seeking immigration documents. The NIS clarified that the official landing page for passport applications is its designated passport portal. Separate official platforms are available for visa applications at Nigerian embassies, electronic visas (e-Visa), Temporary Work Permits (TWP), and the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (eCERPAC).

To enhance security and convenience, the NIS has launched a mobile application for contactless passport applications, accessible on both iOS and Android platforms. It advised the public to verify website authenticity before making payments or submitting personal information, emphasizing reliance on official channels only. The NIS encourages continued vigilance and prompt reporting of any suspicious activities.

The NIS further disclosed that its Mobile Application for Contactless Passport Application was available for download on Apple iOS and the Google Play Store.
