NNPC crude output surges to five-year high

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has released a performance report showcasing significant strides in crude oil production, marking a five-year high of 1.71 million barrels per day. This achievement, shared via the official X handle of Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari, demonstrates measurable progress and accountability across the national oil company's operations over the past year.

This surge in production is complemented by milestones in the upstream sector, with NNPC Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL) recording an all-time peak output of 365,000 barrels per day in December 2025. Furthermore, the company has advanced critical infrastructure projects, notably completing the River Niger crossing of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline and commissioning the Assa North-Ohaji South processing plant. These developments are crucial for enhancing Nigeria's domestic gas supply chain, which has seen a notable rise to 7.5 billion standard cubic feet per day in 2025, supported by various commercial agreements.

In its refining segment, NNPC has introduced an Incorporated Joint Venture model aimed at transforming its refineries into commercially viable and self-financing entities. The company also confirmed its consolidation of a 7.25 percent equity stake in the Dangote Refinery, a move deemed vital for safeguarding national energy interests.
