No Consensus Candidate in Alimosho APC Yet, Party Caucus Insists

The Mandate Movement Group, a significant caucus within the All Progressives Congress in Alimosho Federal Constituency, has issued a crucial clarification regarding the 2027 general elections. Their statement, signed by the immediate past Publicity Secretary Abdullahi Enilolobo, firmly asserts that no consensus candidate has yet emerged for any elective position. This declaration serves to temper the growing wave of endorsements and political alignments that have been circulating within the constituency.

A consensus candidate can only emerge when all aspirants who have purchased and submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms, and have been duly screened and cleared to contest, voluntarily withdraw in writing in support of one aspirant.

Enilolobo’s message is clear: endorsements, whether from individual caucuses or even coalitions, represent mere political preferences and do not constitute a binding consensus. He meticulously outlined the party’s guidelines, emphasizing that a true consensus candidate can only be confirmed when all aspirants who have purchased, submitted, and been cleared for nomination forms voluntarily withdraw their candidacy in writing to support a single aspirant. This rigorous process underscores the party's commitment to due diligence and adherence to established procedures.

Any endorsement by a caucus, or even a coalition of caucuses, merely reflects the preference of that group and does not automatically confer consensus status on any aspirant.

The group highlighted that four aspirants have already secured the necessary forms for the House of Representatives seat for Alimosho Federal Constituency. They also provided details on aspirants for Alimosho State Constituency 01 and 02. The Mandate Movement Group pointed to the influence of three apex leaders within the local APC structure—Enilolobo himself, Bisi Yusuf, and former Deputy Governor Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire—each heading distinct caucuses. However, they reiterated that even endorsements from these influential figures do not bypass the official party process. The ultimate decision, they stressed, will either stem from a consensus built in line with party rules after the screening stage or through direct primaries. Any premature claims of consensus are therefore deemed misleading.
