No Saturday sitting: Parliament to adjourn on July 31

Ghana's Parliament is expected to conclude its current session and adjourn sine die (indefinitely) on July 31. Mahama Ayariga, the Leader of Government Business, announced this while presenting the business statement for the 11th week of the session, urging members to focus on scheduled activities before the adjournment.

A previously proposed sitting for Saturday, July 25, has been officially canceled. Ayariga informed the House that members would no longer convene on that date. The Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament commenced on May 21.

During the final week, the Business Committee has arranged for three ministers of state to address a total of 31 questions from members. The Minister of Environment, Science and Technology will answer 10 questions, while the Ministers of Health and Energy will respond to 10 and 11 questions, respectively. One question is classified as urgent, with the remaining 30 being oral. Ministers may also make statements on government policy.

Additionally, bills, papers, and reports may be presented, with urgent matters potentially fast-tracked. Committees are also expected to address a backlog of 520 referrals assigned to 27 committees during the recess. The debate on the Mid-Year Review of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy, presented the previous Thursday, is slated to begin next Tuesday, with concluding remarks from the Majority and Minority Leaders scheduled for July 30.
