Noboa Meets Colombia President-Elect in Lima to Discuss Security and Trade

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa convened with Colombia's President-elect José Manuel Restrepo in Lima, Peru, to foster closer cooperation between the two nations. The high-level meeting focused on developing a joint agenda to tackle shared challenges, particularly in security and trade. Both leaders emphasized the need for coordinated efforts against pressing issues such as drug trafficking, illegal mining, and organized crime, especially along their shared northern border. Ecuador's Foreign Minister, Roberto Kury, highlighted the importance of Colombia as a key trading partner and expressed intentions to bolster binational collaboration. This engagement precedes the inauguration of Colombia's President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella on August 7, an event Noboa confirmed he would attend. The discussions also touched upon the recent trade dispute between Ecuador and Colombia, which was resolved earlier in the year, signaling a renewed commitment to positive bilateral relations. The Ecuadorian Interior Minister indicated that joint operations against organized crime are anticipated once the new Colombian administration takes office.
