Noi Bai Airport Touts Fined for Cheating Passengers

Hanoi's Noi Bai Airport is cracking down on taxi touts who have long plagued passengers with inflated prices. Police have fined eight individuals a total of 37 million Vietnamese dong for touting and illegal parking.

One passenger reported paying 350,000 dong for a taxi ride that should have cost much less, with the driver only receiving 180,000 dong after a tout allegedly took the remaining 170,000 dong. This practice has been ongoing, with touts targeting passengers outside the airport and charging more than ride-sharing services, especially during late-night hours.

A passenger said that recently he took a taxi from Noi Bai airport to Nuoc Ngam bus station (Hanoi) for 350,000 dong, but the driver of that car only received 180,000 dong, the rest was cut by the 'tout' for a fee of 170,000 dong.

The situation worsened after ride-sharing vehicles were moved to a more distant pickup location. In response to passenger complaints, including a "one-star review bomb" on Google, airport authorities have adjusted the pickup zone for ride-sharing services to a more convenient location with shelters. They have also reiterated strict prohibitions against touting and illegal passenger solicitation to ensure airport security and safety.
