North Macedonia: Traffic Fines Processed in Under Five Minutes at Tabanovce Crossing

North Macedonia's Ministry of Interior reported smooth traffic flow at the Tabanovce border crossing with Serbia. The ministry stated that vehicles with foreign license plates facing traffic violations are processed in a maximum of five minutes. This efficiency is attributed to the "Bezbedan grad" (Safe City) system and its mobile application, which allows for electronic regulation and payment of fines.

In the first two days of implementing the fine collection for foreign drivers on August 19-20, the "Bezbedan grad" system recorded 5,514 violations by vehicles with foreign license plates. To address the resulting congestion, a mobile application was launched in August. This app is currently designed for foreign nationals, providing information on registered violations and fines, and enabling electronic payment.

The "Bezbedan grad" system has been operational in Skopje, Kumanovo, Tetovo, and along traffic corridors 8 and 10 since early February. Plans are underway to extend its services to Ohrid. Between February 2 and August 20, the system logged a total of 310,865 violations, primarily for speeding. Of these, 180,378 were attributed to vehicles with foreign plates. The system's cameras detect four main violations: illegal parking, speeding, running red lights, and driving with an expired registration.

Thanks to the introduced system and the possibility of electronic regulation via the "Bezbedan grad" application, the process of paying traffic violations has been significantly facilitated and accelerated.
