North Sumatra builds new classrooms at two Nias vocational schools to boost student capacity

The North Sumatra provincial government has initiated the construction of new classrooms at two vocational high schools in Nias. This development aims to expand the capacity for student admissions in the Nias Islands region.

Deputy Governor Surya personally inspected the construction sites in Gunungsitoli on Wednesday. He stressed the importance of adhering to the project's plan and prioritizing the quality of work. Surya stated that educational infrastructure development must yield long-term benefits for the community, adding, "The improvement of educational facilities must be accompanied by an increase in the quality of learning so that it can produce intelligent and characterful generations."

Construction is currently in its initial phase, focusing on foundation preparation at both SMK Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli and SMK Negeri 3 Gunungsitoli. Deputy Governor Surya urged for the project's completion on schedule without compromising quality, ensuring the new facilities can accommodate more students in Nias soon.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the province is also supporting educational access. The North Sumatra Education Agency reported that 41,876 students across five regencies and cities in Nias are benefiting from the "Free School" flagship program for the 2026/2027 academic year. The government has allocated Rp21.48 billion per semester to support this initiative. Surya also highlighted the crucial role of teachers as role models for students.

Melinus Telaumbanua, the head of SMK Negeri 3 Gunungsitoli, welcomed the new construction, expressing appreciation for the provincial government's attention and anticipating the optimal utilization of the new classrooms for teaching and learning activities.
