Norway FA President Klaveness Calls on FIFA Boss Infantino to Resign

Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) President Lise Klaveness publicly called for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign, asserting he no longer holds the confidence of the global football community. Klaveness stated that Infantino "does not have the institutional trust required to govern FIFA stably in the times we are in."

Speaking to reporters after the NFF's monthly board meeting, Klaveness declared, "There is no going back for Gianni Infantino. The international football cooperation is very much in trouble, and we must have a reason to get together now, and we want to ask the FIFA president to resign now."

The NFF's stance comes amid significant conflict among football governing bodies, partly sparked by FIFA's abandoned proposal to sell commercial rights to the World Cup. The Norwegian federation hopes other UEFA countries will join their call for Infantino's departure.

Klaveness, a qualified lawyer, detailed a list of concerns the NFF has raised with FIFA during her tenure, including issues surrounding tournament awards and the controversial decision to give FIFA's inaugural peace prize to then-U.S. President Donald Trump. She also mentioned the overturning of a ban for American player Folarin Balogun during the recent World Cup, which followed a call from Trump.

While Klaveness's name has been mentioned as a potential successor to Infantino, she dismissed speculation about her own candidacy, stating it was "not a theme at all" and that she was not ready to comment on any potential leadership bids.
