'Nothing to do with politics': Nitin Gadkari clarifies amid retirement buzz over 'can't work much now' remark

Union minister Nitin Gadkari's recent comments urging for more young people to assume responsibility have ignited speculation about his political future. However, his office has since issued a clarification, stating that his remarks were not political in nature.

During an event in Nagpur on Sunday, August 23, Gadkari called for greater responsibility to be given to younger individuals. "I can no longer work so much…I urge people to give young people more work. There are new people now and the old ones are guiding them," he said. A video of his speech, delivered in Marathi, circulated widely online, prompting discussions about its potential implications.

Gadkari's office clarified on Tuesday that the minister's statements were specifically related to the Laxmanrao Mankar Trust, an organization he established that operates Ekal Vidyalayas in tribal areas. The remarks were made during an event organized by the Trust in Nagpur. "In that context, Gadkari said that he could no longer take on as much work as before and that the younger generation should be given an opportunity to take greater responsibility," the clarification stated. It added that some TV news channels had broadcasted his remarks with a political context, which was inaccurate.

The clarification aimed to put an end to speculation about retirement plans. Gadkari's office emphasized that his call for empowering younger generations was solely within the framework of the Trust's functioning and future leadership. The minister had previously reflected on his extensive public life and the "many ups and downs" he had experienced, alongside fulfilling significant roles and responsibilities.
