Novi Sad Association Representative Arrested for Allegedly Defrauding Budget of 4 Million Dinars

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (VJT) in Novi Sad has announced the arrest of M.A., a representative of the citizens' association "Pokret mladih Novosađana progres." The arrest stems from suspicions that M.A. defrauded the budgets of Novi Sad and Vojvodina by approximately 4.25 million dinars, funds allocated for the association's projects.

According to the VJT, the alleged scheme involved the non-implementation of project activities, while the suspect submitted falsified reports to the funding bodies. These reports purportedly detailed the utilization of allocated funds for activities such as workshops and lectures, none of which actually took place.

M.A. is facing charges of abuse of position. Following approval from the Special Department for the Suppression of Corruption within the VJT in Novi Sad, the suspect has been detained for up to 48 hours. During this period, M.A. will be brought before and questioned by the Special Department, as per legal procedures.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts to combat corruption within the region and highlights the vigilance of judicial authorities in ensuring the proper allocation and use of public funds. The "Movement of Young Novi Sad Progressives" was entrusted with significant resources, and the alleged misuse of these funds for personal gain or fraudulent reporting is a serious offense against the community.
