NPFL Warns Clubs on Penalty for Fixture Disruption

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is taking decisive action to safeguard the integrity of the 2025/26 season as it approaches its conclusion. In a stern directive issued by NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, all clubs have been put on notice regarding the critical importance of adhering to the scheduled dates and kick-off times for Matchdays 37 and 38.

It has also become imperative to remind all clubs that the remaining games of Matchday 37 and 38 have been scheduled to be played simultaneously on the same date and kick-off time of 4 pm. “This decision is to ensure sporting fairness and to protect the integrity of our matches and results”

The league's commitment to sporting fairness is paramount, necessitating that all remaining games are played simultaneously. This measure is designed to prevent any potential manipulation or unfair advantage, ensuring that the final standings reflect genuine competitive outcomes. Owumi emphasized that any club facing venue unavailability must promptly communicate an alternative NPFL-accredited venue, or the NPFL will assign one.

Should any club have issues of unavailability of regular venue, such club must choose and communicate an alternative NPFL accredited venue before close of business yesterday, May 7, 2026. “Should any club fail to do so, the NPFL will choose a venue for the fixture”

To underscore the seriousness of these regulations, the NPFL has invoked its rules, stating that any club found in breach of these directives—whether by failing to play at the scheduled time or by not securing an appropriate venue—will face severe penalties. These penalties include the forfeiture of three crucial points and three goals, a significant deterrent aimed at maintaining the competitive spirit and credibility of the league.
