NSCDC deploys 10,210 personnel, tactical units for Osun election

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has mobilized a significant force of 10,210 personnel, including specialized tactical units, to bolster security for the upcoming Osun State governorship election. The deployment, ordered by NSCDC Commandant-General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, commenced on Monday.

This extensive deployment is part of the Corps' commitment to ensuring a secure environment for all participants in the electoral process. Uniformed and undercover officers from multiple state commands, including Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Delta, and the Federal Capital Territory, will join the Osun State Command to enhance security coverage.

As an agency saddled with the responsibility of protecting critical infrastructure and national assets, the safety and security of election materials and electoral officials are very critical alongside the electorates; you have the responsibility of ensuring unbiased synergy with other security agencies on election duty to actualize a free, fair and credible election.

In addition to regular personnel, Audi directed the deployment of specialized formations. These include the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad (SIS), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, Specialised Female Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Strike Force, Crack Squad, and K9 Unit. These teams are equipped for intelligence gathering, crime prevention, critical asset protection, and crowd control.

To ensure seamless coordination, the Deputy Commandant-General in charge of Operations, DCG Ayuba Phillip, along with Assistant Commandants-General and other senior officers, will be stationed in Osun State to oversee the NSCDC's election security operations. Audi emphasized the importance of professionalism, impartiality, and respect for citizens' rights, assuring that the Corps would work collaboratively with other security agencies to prevent any disruption and ensure a free, fair, and credible election.
