NSCDC retrains FCT personnel in weapon handling

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory Command is demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing its operational readiness and effectiveness. The recent disclosure by FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu reveals a significant push towards professionalizing the corps through comprehensive retraining programs.

We have trained personnel from different departments and units at the command headquarters, divisions and area commands on operational skills, intelligence gathering, surveillance, administration, strategy, logistics and tactical manoeuvring.

The focus on weapon handling, with 65% of personnel already retrained and a target of 85% by 2026, underscores the command's dedication to ensuring its officers are proficient and safe in the use of firearms. This initiative is crucial for maintaining law and order and responding effectively to the security challenges within the nation's capital.

This will further enhance physical fitness, readiness and operational capability, as well as the ability to respond effectively to criminal activities.

Furthermore, the extensive refresher courses covering operational skills, intelligence gathering, and tactical maneuvering, alongside the development of a new training facility, signal a forward-thinking approach. The integration of modern innovations, such as drones, aligns the NSCDC with international best practices in crime prevention and the protection of critical national assets. This proactive stance is vital for combating crime and ensuring the security of Abuja.

We recently received drones from the corps’ national headquarters to enhance patrol of critical national assets within the FCT. This requires proper training for operators, making training a continuous process.
