NU Data Cannot Be Used for Politics, Says Chairman Gus Yahya

KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, the chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), has firmly asserted that the data belonging to members of the Indonesian Islamic organization is a sacred trust and cannot be traded or exploited for political purposes. Gus Yahya, as he is widely known, made this declaration during the launch of the digital platform "Saadatuna" in Jakarta.

In the current digital age, Gus Yahya stressed that safeguarding member data is a crucial aspect of upholding the principle of "al-amanah wal wafa bil ahdi," which translates to being trustworthy and fulfilling promises. This principle is one of the five core tenets of "Mabadi Khaira Ummah," established by KH Mahfudz Shiddiq.

"This member data is a trust, not the property of the administrators. So it cannot be sold. It cannot be borrowed for politics or anything else. And there must be a guarantee," Gus Yahya stated in a press release. He further explained that PBNU is actively building a technological system designed to guarantee the security of member data. This system aims to ensure that data is used solely for its intended purpose: the welfare of NU members.

Gus Yahya added that members will eventually be able to personally verify that their data remains secure. "Members can check that their data is safe. And I personally am ready to be accountable to the members, to the administrators, and before Allah SWT," he declared. The launch of Saadatuna is part of PBNU's broader effort to contextualize "Mabadi Khaira Ummah," the fundamental principles for building the best community, originally formulated by KH Mahfudz Shiddiq. Gus Yahya highlighted that the first principle, "ash-shidqu" or honesty, is the cornerstone of building civilization and organizations.
