NWFL season concludes with Osun, Sunshine relegation

The 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership regular season reached its dramatic conclusion on Wednesday, with Sunshine Queens and Osun Babes facing the harsh reality of relegation despite valiant efforts on the final matchday. The league's final round of fixtures delivered late-game excitement, crucial goals, and definitive outcomes across all nine venues, setting the stage for the upcoming Super Six tournament.

In Group B, Robo Queens cemented their position at the summit with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nasarawa Amazons, maintaining an impeccable home record. Opeyemi Ajakaye and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi scored for Robo Queens, while Ayatsea Hembafan netted for the visitors. Meanwhile, Dannaz Ladies secured their top-flight status in a thrilling five-goal encounter, coming from behind to defeat Remo Stars Ladies 3-2 in a South-West derby. Goals from Fatimoh Solaty, Zainab Raji, and Ajoke Akinbo, along with an own goal, sealed the win for Dannaz Ladies.

Edo Queens further bolstered their title aspirations with a 2-1 win against Rivers Angels in Benin City. Atume Doosuur opened the scoring in the 21st minute, ultimately finishing the regular season as the league's top scorer with 12 goals. Esther Inyang added a second for Edo Queens, and Patience Otubo scored a late consolation for Rivers Angels.

Delta Queens delivered one of the day's most resounding performances, defeating Osun Babes 3-0 in Asaba, a result that confirmed Osun's relegation. Titilayo Aweda scored twice early on, and Anastasia Terfa added a third. In other matches, Ahudiyannem Queens ended their debut season with a 1-0 victory over Abia Angels, while Ekiti Queens caused an upset by defeating Group A leaders and defending champions Bayelsa Queens 1-0. Sunshine Queens also secured a 2-0 win over Confluence Queens, but it was insufficient to prevent their relegation, joining Osun Babes in dropping out of the top flight. Heartland Queens narrowly defeated Adamawa Queens 1-0, and Pacesetter Queens drew with Naija Ratels.
