Detectives have apprehended five suspects, including the alleged prime perpetrator, in connection with the attempted murder of BNP activist Alamgir Hossain in Pallabi, Dhaka. Authorities report that the shooting, which occurred on Friday evening, was motivated by a financial dispute involving Tk 15 lakh.

The arrested individuals are identified as Md Rubel alias Langra Rubel, the prime suspect; Bappa alias Shakil; Hamidur alias Makhon; Parvez; and Rabbi. They were taken into custody during separate operations in Savar, Gazipur, and Kushtia on Monday. Mohammad Rakib Khan, deputy commissioner of DB’s Mirpur Division, stated that the suspects had fled Dhaka after the incident.

During the arrests, law enforcement seized a pistol, two rounds of bullets, two ammunition magazines, the car used in the attack, another vehicle, and 1,000 yaba pills. Deputy Commissioner Rakib Khan noted that initial arrests were made in Gazipur, followed by individuals apprehended in Aminbazar and Savar, with one suspect detained as far as Kushtia.

While Alamgir Hossain is identified as a BNP leader, Deputy Commissioner Rakib Khan clarified that he is also involved in drug peddling and allegedly purchased drugs from Rubel, who is described as a wholesale drug dealer. The incident involved assailants opening fire on Alamgir as he sat at a tea stall in Pallabi, with a pedestrian also being struck by a bullet.

All of them left Dhaka after the incident. We initially caught one suspect from Gazipur. Then we picked up one from Aminbazar, and another from Savar. One was even picked up from Kushtia.
