Dhaka University's Syndicate has initiated a sweeping review of all appointments for teachers, officers, and employees made over a 15-year period, from January 1, 2009, to June 30, 2024. This decision, made during a syndicate meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, also includes action against teachers allegedly involved in actions counter to student interests during the recent July uprising.

A probe committee, led by Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Abdus Salam, has been formed to scrutinize these appointments. Concurrently, the syndicate will examine research projects funded by the World Bank and the University Grants Commission under the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project during the same timeframe. A separate four-member committee, including the VC, will investigate allegations against teachers who reportedly sided against students during the uprising, reviewing a list of 125 teachers provided by the Anti-Fascist Teachers platform.

Amidst these decisions, protests occurred outside the meeting venue. Leaders and activists from Ducsu and Islami Chhatra Shibir alleged the syndicate intended to approve a new hall seat allocation policy that would extend residential eligibility for irregular students. In response to the protest, the syndicate deferred a final decision on the policy, pending consultations with stakeholders. The university also plans to review footage to identify individuals using loudspeakers during the protest. Additionally, the syndicate will send a recommendation to a tribunal for the permanent expulsion of former dean Prof Sadeka Halim over her alleged role against students and other accusations.
