Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has asserted that the recent forced retirements and transfers within the police administration are standard procedural matters, aimed at ensuring efficiency and adherence to regulations, rather than politically motivated actions. Speaking to reporters after a meeting on forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals, the minister emphasized that all decisions, including appointments, transfers, and disciplinary actions, are executed through established legal frameworks.

All appointments, transfers, promotions, disciplinary measures and retirements are being carried out through legal processes.

This clarification comes in the wake of reports detailing the forced retirement of 16 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and an Additional DIG. Minister Kamal defended these decisions, stating they were made after careful review by an internal committee, ensuring fairness and compliance with service rules. He acknowledged the inherited challenges of a 'fragile and chaotic state' but expressed confidence in the government's direction towards restoring public order and maintaining a strict legal stance.

The minister also provided updates on several key government initiatives. He highlighted the ongoing special joint operation against drugs, illegal arms, and extortion, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Furthermore, he addressed the public's dissatisfaction with the current police uniform, indicating that a revised uniform, retaining the traditional shirt but introducing khaki trousers, is being considered following a proposal from the police. Measures are also being coordinated to curb drug smuggling within and around the Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf, reflecting the government's multifaceted approach to internal security and public order.
