Oborevwori seeks proactive security measures to boost N’Delta economy

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on the newly appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army's 6 Division, Major General Everest Okoro, to bolster security operations across the Niger Delta. Governor Oborevwori stressed that economic prosperity in the region is intrinsically tied to the safety of lives, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

During Major General Okoro's visit to the Government House in Asaba, Oborevwori highlighted the economic imperative of peace in the Niger Delta, noting that Delta State's status as a major oil-producing state makes regional stability crucial. "If this region is safe, the economy will go up. If there is unrest in this region, the economy will go down," the governor stated.

Oborevwori attributed the relative peace in Delta State to the strong cooperation between the state government and its security agencies. He assured the new GOC of his administration's ongoing commitment to supporting the military and other security forces through the provision of necessary infrastructure and logistical aid. He cited recent initiatives, such as the construction of accommodation at the Amphibious Army Barracks in Agbor and logistical support for the 63 Brigade, as examples of this support.

Major General Okoro, who also serves as the Land Component Commander of Operation Delta Safe, acknowledged Delta State's strategic importance due to its oil and gas installations and vital national assets. He affirmed that protecting these assets would be a priority under his command, recognizing the direct link between the state's security and Nigeria's overall economic stability. Okoro emphasized the need for proactive security measures to prevent criminal activities from escalating.
