Ogun APM Chieftain Declares Governorship Ambition, Pledges 150,000 Jobs

In a significant declaration that could reshape the political landscape of Ogun State, town planning expert Rotimi Babajide has officially announced his bid for the governorship seat in 2027, running under the banner of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). Babajide's declaration, made at the APM secretariat in Abeokuta, was accompanied by a robust manifesto centered on transformative development and job creation, promising no fewer than 150,000 new jobs within his first term.

I stand before you today, in the name of the Most High, to declare my sincere intention to serve the good people of Ogun State as governor from May 29, 2027.

Babajide's vision for Ogun State is ambitious, aiming to usher in an era of prosperity and justice by reclaiming the state's heritage from what he termed 'political invaders.' His administration's core strategy involves prioritizing job creation through targeted industrial growth clusters in key economic zones like Abeokuta, Sagamu, and Ota. This will be complemented by support for small and medium-scale enterprises, artisans, and young entrepreneurs through grants and low-interest loans, alongside the establishment of youth enterprise hubs and partnerships with private investors for manufacturing and agro-processing expansion.

My administration will prioritise job creation through industrialisation and private-sector partnerships, noting that his target of 150,000 jobs is achievable through deliberate policies and investments.

Beyond job creation, Babajide's comprehensive manifesto addresses critical sectors including infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and security. He pledged to enhance rural connectivity and economic activities through massive road rehabilitation and improved transport systems, alongside efforts to boost electricity supply via independent power projects. The 'Clean Ogun Initiative' aims to tackle waste management challenges, with a goal to construct or rehabilitate at least 500 kilometers of roads statewide. Educational reforms will focus on upgrading public schools with modern facilities and digital tools, coupled with enhanced teacher training.
