Ogun State Rescues Abducted Polytechnic Students, Governor Vows No Safe Haven for Kidnappers

Ogun State has achieved a significant success in its battle against kidnapping with the rescue of seven students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade. The students were abducted earlier this week in Remo North Local Government Area.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the breakthrough on Thursday, stating that all seven victims were rescued alive through a coordinated security operation. The joint effort included the Nigeria Police Force, Armed Forces, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), local vigilantes, and hunters.

I am pleased to inform the good people of Ogun State that in the early hours of today, Thursday, August 6, 2026, the combined security operation successfully rescued all seven victims alive.

During the operation, one student sustained a gunshot injury but has been stabilized after receiving immediate medical attention. Governor Abiodun assured the public that security agencies are actively pursuing all individuals connected to the criminal enterprise. "Our resolve is very clear. Ogun State will remain hostile to criminality and safe for every law-abiding citizen, resident and investor," the governor declared.

The rescue operation received a crucial boost from the deployment of a police helicopter for aerial surveillance, approved by Inspector-General Mr. Olatunji Disu. Governor Abiodun highlighted the effectiveness of recent joint security initiatives, such as Operation Kò S’Áyé, emphasizing intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing national security and investing in the capacity of security agencies. The governor noted that the recent nationwide rescue of 308 abducted victims underscores the growing effectiveness of coordinated security operations across Nigeria.
