Okpekpe International 10km Road Race Rescheduled to May 30

The organizers of the esteemed Okpekpe International 10km Road Race have announced a strategic postponement of the event, moving it from May 23 to May 30, 2026. This decision, made by Pamodzi Sports Marketing, is not a reflection of any setback but a proactive measure to elevate the race experience for all participants and spectators.

The primary motivation behind this one-week shift is to facilitate the finalization of enhanced logistical arrangements. This includes expanding medical coverage to ensure participant safety, bolstering security deployments for a smoother event, and adding more spectator facilities to improve the overall atmosphere. Race Director Zack Amodu emphasized that this adjustment is crucial for guaranteeing the comfort and safety of everyone involved, ensuring the race upholds its reputation as a world-class event.

Adding to the race's prestige, the Okpekpe event will benefit from Nigeria's first World Athletics-certified medical director, a recent achievement by the race's medical lead who completed certification in Madrid. This development, coupled with the race's status as a Gold Label event, underscores its growing significance in the global athletics calendar.
