Olimpia's Rival Confirmed for Copa Sudamericana Round of 16

Club Olimpia has confirmed its rival for the round of 16 in the 2026 Copa Sudamericana, setting up a clash with either Brazil's Vasco da Gama or Colombia's Independiente Medellín.

Olimpia, having already secured their spot in the knockout stage, will face the victor of the upcoming playoff between Vasco da Gama and Independiente Medellín. Vasco da Gama secured second place in Group G of the Copa Sudamericana, accumulating 10 points. Meanwhile, Independiente Medellín finished third in Group A of the Copa Libertadores 2026 with 7 points.

The playoff series between Vasco da Gama and Independiente Medellín is slated to take place after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The first leg is scheduled for July 21-23 in Medellín, followed by the return leg on July 28-30 in Rio de Janeiro. The aggregate winner will then proceed to face Olimpia in August.

Olimpia, who also clinched the 2026 Paraguayan Primera División Apertura title, will play their round of 16 matches on August 11-13 and August 18-20. The first leg will be played in Colombia or Brazil, with the second leg taking place in Paraguay. The team that emerges victorious will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will meet the winner of the tie between Argentina's River Plate and either Independiente Santa Fe or Caracas.
