Oman's population exceeds 5.3 million

The Sultanate of Oman's population has surpassed 5.3 million, reaching approximately 5,398,645 by the end of June 2026. This figure represents a growth of 1.7 percent compared to the previous year, when the population stood at 5,306,976.

National statistics reveal that Omanis comprise the majority of the population, numbering 3,063,949, which is 56.75 percent of the total. Expatriates account for the remaining 2,334,696 residents, making up 43.25 percent of the population.

Geographically, Muscat Governorate remains the most populous region, home to 1,542,619 people, or 28.6 percent of Oman's total inhabitants. North Al Batinah Governorate follows with a population of 947,147 (17.5 percent), and South Al Batinah Governorate ranks third with 590,160 residents (10.9 percent).

Other governorates also show significant populations: Al Dakhiliyah has 575,096 inhabitants (10.7 percent), Dhofar has 536,302 (9.9 percent), South Al Sharqiyah has 378,335 (7 percent), and North Al Sharqiyah has 323,473 (6 percent). Al Dhahirah Governorate has 249,095 people (4.6 percent), Al Buraimi has 135,797 (2.5 percent), Al Wusta has 64,815 (1.2 percent), and Musandam has 55,806 (1 percent).
