One killed as gunmen attack police team in Plateau

In Plateau State, Nigeria, a confrontation between police operatives and armed assailants has resulted in the neutralization of a suspected kidnapper and the recovery of a firearm. The incident occurred in Changal Village, Gindiri District, Mangu Local Government Area, when police detectives from the Gindiri Division, who were actively tracking suspected criminals, were ambushed. The Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, confirmed the event, detailing how the operatives responded professionally to the attack allegedly led by a notorious suspect, Ibrahim Abdullahi.

As part of efforts put in place by the Plateau State Police Command to curb crime and criminality, the Command has successfully neutralised a suspected kidnapper and recovered a firearm in Mangu Local Government Area.

The police statement highlighted that a fierce gun duel ensued, leading to the death of one suspect. Other fleeing suspects faced consequences, with one sustaining a leg fracture while attempting to escape and subsequently receiving medical attention. The recovered items include an AK-47 rifle loaded with sixteen rounds of live ammunition and a Redmi phone believed to belong to one of the victims. This operation is part of the broader efforts by the Plateau State Police Command to combat crime and criminality within the region.

Our team immediately responded professionally, and a gun duel ensued between them. In the process, one of the suspects was neutralised, while the other suspects have been arrested.

The Commissioner of Police for Plateau State, Bassey Ewah, lauded the operatives involved for their courage and professionalism during the operation. He took the opportunity to reiterate the importance of community cooperation, urging residents to persist in providing timely and actionable intelligence to security agencies. Such information is deemed crucial for supporting ongoing initiatives aimed at curbing crime and ensuring the safety of communities in Plateau State. The case has been transferred to the Violent Crimes Response Unit for further investigation, with suspects expected to face charges upon completion.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one AK-47 rifle loaded with sixteen (16) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and one Redmi Phone belonging to one of their victims.
