Online Scam Ring Busted in Vietnam After 'Too Noisy' Travel

An online scam operation was dismantled in Vietnam's Phu Tho province after a group of foreigners attracted suspicion due to their unusually noisy gatherings. Local police were alerted to the group's presence and subsequent investigation revealed 18 individuals had entered Vietnam illegally. Among them were three fugitives from China, who had relocated their operations from Cambodia after facing crackdowns there. The group employed sophisticated methods to enter Vietnam, splitting into smaller units and crossing the southern border clandestinely. They aimed to establish a new base of operations in Vietnam, but their plans were cut short before they could become fully functional. Authorities confiscated a significant amount of equipment, including 73 computers, 134 mobile phones, and data storage devices, intended for the scam's headquarters. The bust is considered a crucial step in preventing Vietnam from becoming a hub for transnational high-tech fraud. So far, four individuals, including one foreigner, have been charged in connection with organizing illegal stays in Vietnam.
