Ontario golf club employee dies following propane tank explosion

A propane tank explosion at a golf club cottage has resulted in the death of a 63-year-old man near Peterborough, Ontario. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Bellmere Winds Golf Resort on Villiers Line.

Emergency services responded to the scene, where the man was initially transported by ambulance before being airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital with critical injuries. He succumbed to his injuries early Thursday morning, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The victim was identified as a staff member at the golf resort. Officials confirmed that no other injuries were reported. The senior executive team at Great Blue Resorts, which operates Bellmere Winds, stated their commitment to guest and staff safety and are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

The investigation into the explosion is being led by the OPP, in conjunction with several other agencies, including the Office of the Fire Marshal, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority, and the Ministry of Labour. The Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are also involved.
