Onyedika nearing Frankfurt switch as Bundesliga club raises offer

Eintracht Frankfurt is reportedly closing in on a deal for Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika, having raised their offer to approximately €9 million. This improved bid aims to outmaneuver competition from Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad, who are also vying for the Club Brugge player's signature.

Onyedika, a 25-year-old defensive midfielder, is under contract with the Belgian club until June 30, 2027. While Frankfurt's latest offer is seen as a significant step, it is understood to still fall short of Club Brugge's valuation. Frankfurt has been monitoring Onyedika for over a year, viewing the current transfer window as an opportune moment to secure his services, especially with only one year remaining on his contract and no renewal agreement in sight.

Last season, Eintracht Frankfurt's defense struggled, conceding 65 league goals. The club sees Onyedika's ball-winning capabilities and effectiveness in transitions as crucial for strengthening their midfield. He brings considerable continental experience, having made 24 Champions League appearances, five in the Europa League, and 13 in the Conference League, and recently finished third with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.
