Ordu to Host 6th Literature and Book Days

From the shores of the Black Sea, Ordu is preparing to welcome May with a vibrant celebration of literature and books. The 6th Ordu Literature and Book Days, set to take place from May 1-10, 2026, promises to be more than just a book fair. Organized by the Altınordu Municipality, the event aims to establish Ordu as a significant cultural center, fostering an environment where literature, thought, and art converge.

The Akyazı Coastal Event Area will transform into a lively meeting point for publishers, writers, poets, readers, students, and art enthusiasts for ten days. The opening day, May 1st, coinciding with Labor and Solidarity Day, holds special significance. The event will feature prominent figures like Süleyman Çelebi discussing the meaning of May 1st, and acclaimed author Ahmet Ümit sharing insights from his work "Ancient Murders."

Altınordu Mayor Ulaş Tepe emphasized the event's regional importance, stating, "A wind of literature will blow in the Black Sea." He anticipates a larger attendance this year, building on the success of previous years, with expanded programming and improved facilities. Mayor Tepe noted the increased need for culture and art during challenging times, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the world of books and stories.

This year's festival boasts an impressive lineup of over 30 writers, poets, journalists, and cultural figures, including Ahmet Ümit, Buket Uzuner, and Pelin Batu. The diverse program spans children's literature, novels, poetry, crime fiction, historical narratives, and cultural commentary, reflecting the multifaceted nature of literature and catering to a wide audience. The Ordu Literature and Book Days are solidifying their place as a cornerstone of the region's cultural landscape.
