Osun Commissioner arrested over gunshots at APC rally in Osun

The Osun State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Mayowa Asejoorin, has been arrested by the police in connection with a shooting incident that occurred during an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Ilesa on Saturday. The incident resulted in injuries to four individuals.

Reports indicate that APC supporters were attacked by chieftains of the Accord party during the rally, leading to sporadic gunfire. Among the injured is a 14-year-old boy, Ilesanmi, who was hit by a stray bullet in the thigh while at his mother's shop. Eyewitnesses claim that personnel from a state-based security outfit, escorting the Accord chieftains, fired directly at APC members, sparking a protest in Ilesa.

Immediately the incident was reported, our personnel moved to the scene, cordoned off the area before some exhibit were recovered, which included expanded cartridges, Amotekun personnel caps.

The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrest of Commissioner Asejoorin, stating he was taken to the command for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Police personnel responded swiftly to the scene, cordoned off the area, and recovered exhibits, including expanded cartridges and caps belonging to Amotekun personnel.
