Osun election: Adeleke campaign alleges plot to declare poll inconclusive

The Imole Campaign Council (ICC) has raised alarms over an alleged plot by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the Osun governorship election inconclusive. The ICC, representing Sen. Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, claims this move is being orchestrated by All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and leaders to obstruct Adeleke's "imminent victory."

In a statement, Bamidele Salam, ICC's Chairman for Media & Publicity, asserted that the plan aims to "hijack our candidate’s victory and subvert the will of the gallant Osun electorate." Salam implored the INEC Chairman to uphold his commitment to a free, fair, and credible election. He also reminded INEC, the APC, and security agencies of President Tinubu's directive against compromising the electoral process.

The ICC further called upon the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, and the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to ensure security at all collation centers. This measure is intended to prevent "hoodlums hired by the APC" from interfering with the process. The council cited reports of ballot box snatching in some polling units and demanded immediate arrests.

Local and international observers were also urged by the ICC to publicly support the rule of law and the people of Osun State. The allegations come amid concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and the potential for political interference.
