Osun election: Adeleke's camp alleges violence, urges security action

The Imole Campaign Council, supporting Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has voiced serious concerns over alleged political violence and intimidation tactics ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election. The campaign organization stated that residents across the state are increasingly worried about acts of intimidation and violence associated with political activities.

Our independent assessment and engagements with voters across the state reveal a common sentiment. The people of Osun are prepared to vote decisively against the APC, driven largely by widespread concerns over what many residents describe as a pattern of political intimidation, violence, and insecurity allegedly associated with actors loyal to the opposition party.

Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the council, issued a statement urging security agencies to guarantee a peaceful, free, fair, and credible election. The council asserts that its assessments reveal a widespread sentiment among voters who are prepared to reject the APC due to what they describe as a pattern of political intimidation, violence, and insecurity allegedly linked to opposition party loyalists.

The campaign council highlighted Governor Adeleke's administration's performance, citing prompt salary payments, infrastructure modernization, and revitalized public institutions. They contend that voters will reject any attempt to revert the state to what they term an era of insecurity and poor governance. The council implored the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services, and other security bodies to safeguard citizens' rights and uphold the electoral process's integrity.
