Osun Lawmakers Commend Tinubu for N700 Billion Road Projects

Federal lawmakers representing Osun State have lauded President Bola Tinubu for his administration's approval of N700 billion for federal road projects within the state. The five All Progressives Congress (APC) legislators, including Senators Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi, emphasized that these crucial interventions were secured through dedicated legislative engagement and presidential assent. They issued a joint statement in Osogbo, urging the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, to refrain from what they termed "misinformation" regarding the projects' origins and execution.

In 2024 Governor Ademola Adeleke met with Minister of work HE David Umani requested a refund of Federal roads his government did, particularly the Ede- Ofatedo road and Ikirun- Ila -Odo dualisation road. It’s extremely saddened that the government of Adeleke is sharing pictures taken in 2024 on social media to represent recent pictures.

The lawmakers provided a detailed account of their efforts, highlighting meetings with President Tinubu and the Minister of Works, David Umahi. They specifically mentioned securing funds for the dualization of the Ibadan-Ife-Ilesa-Akure-Owo road, a project initiated through a Senate motion. Additionally, they noted the Gbongan-Akoda-Osogbo and Ibadan-Iwo-Osogbo roads, with the latter being expedited by presidential directive following an initiative by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola. The legislators stressed the importance of proper attribution for these federal projects.

Last year the Senator Fadahunsi and Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi met with Mr President and requested for reconstruction of the dualization of Ibadan- Ife – Ilesa – Akure -Owo road. Also, there was a motion on the floor of the Senate sponsored by Sen Ajagunnla Olubiyi Fadeyi and co-sponsors by south west Senators in that corridor for the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR administration to award the road. Today the road has been awarded and funds released.

This commendation and call for clarity come amidst a political landscape where infrastructure projects are often points of contention. The lawmakers' statement aims to ensure that the federal government's role and the legislative process behind securing these funds are accurately represented. By highlighting their contributions, they seek to underscore the collaborative efforts between the federal and state levels, while also setting the record straight on project ownership and execution, particularly in relation to the current state administration's claims.
