#OsunDecides2026: 82-year-old voter casts ballot, urges govt to fullfill responsibilities

An 82-year-old resident of Esa-Odo, Moses Olufemi, fulfilled his civic duty by casting his vote at the Esa-Odo Apostolic Primary School polling unit on Saturday during the #OsunDecides2026 elections. Olufemi, who voted at polling unit 001 in Ward 09 of Obokun Local Government Area, highlighted the importance of participation.

Speaking at the polling unit, Olufemi described the voting process as seamless, despite an early morning turnout. "It’s my civic right to do, if I don’t do it, I am cheating myself," the octogenarian stated, underscoring his commitment to the electoral process.

Beyond exercising his right, Olufemi also took the opportunity to address the Osun State Government. He urged officials to continue fulfilling their responsibilities to the citizens, noting that residents had turned out in large numbers to exercise their own civic rights.

Voting commenced around 8:30 a.m. at the polling unit, which serves 822 registered voters. An assistant presiding officer from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) encouraged elderly voters to cast their ballots first. Security personnel were deployed to maintain order and ensure a peaceful voting environment throughout the day.
