Otti unveils capacity-building training for Abia monarchs

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has initiated a Zonal Traditional Rulers’ Capacity-Building Workshop, emphasizing the theme "Strengthening Traditional Institutions for Peace, Security, Inclusive Governance and Sustainable Community Development in Abia State." The program aims to enhance the capabilities of traditional institutions in fostering peace, security, good governance, and sustainable development throughout the state.

Our core objective is to awaken the sense of responsibility among our traditional rulers and connect the timeless wisdom of our rich community leadership heritage with the evolving demands of modern governance.

Flagging off the event, Governor Otti, represented by Uzor Nwachukwu, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stressed that the workshop is designed to provide royal fathers with updated tools for their duties. "Our core objective is to awaken the sense of responsibility among our traditional rulers and connect the timeless wisdom of our rich community leadership heritage with the evolving demands of modern governance," Otti stated. He added that the workshop seeks to equip them with contemporary skills in conflict resolution, administrative leadership, and strategic community development.

Traditional rulers are viewed as the "first line of defence in community peace, stability and development," according to Otti. The training is intended to empower them to perform their responsibilities more effectively. Oge Maduka, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, elaborated on the workshop's design, stating it was carefully crafted to equip royal fathers with "contemporary knowledge, practical skills and strategic partnerships to respond effectively to the opportunities and challenges of modern leadership."

The workshop features presentations from various resource persons, aiming to foster a more engaged and effective traditional leadership structure within Abia State.
