Outrage as car racers kill one, hospitalize another in Imo

A deadly car racing incident at the busy Imo State University junction in Owerri has sparked outrage and calls for action. Young people engaging in reckless speed competitions on Sunday evening killed one passerby and critically injured another.

An eyewitness described the car racing as an almost regular occurrence, lamenting the lack of government intervention. "Today, they have killed someone who was just passing," the witness stated, adding that the second victim was seriously wounded and hospitalized. The witness also noted that spectators often gathered to cheer on the racers, highlighting the dangerous and public nature of the activity.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from residents who are demanding that all individuals involved be arrested and prosecuted. As of the time of reporting, the Imo State Police Command had not yet released an official statement regarding the tragedy.
