Over 400 Ukrainian Drones Target Moscow Region; Most Intercepted

Moscow experienced a large-scale drone assault overnight, with Russian air defense systems intercepting over 400 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeting the capital and its surrounding regions. While the majority of the drones were reportedly neutralized away from the city center, debris caused damage and minor injuries in several districts.

From 8:30 PM to 5 AM (local time), over 400 enemy drones were detected heading towards the Moscow region. Most were intercepted by air defense systems in areas far from the capital. A total of 85 drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were destroyed as they approached Moscow.

According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, approximately 85 drones were destroyed as they approached the capital. Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported damage in Podolsk, Domodedovo, and Odintsovo, including fires in private homes and damage to public facilities. Initial reports indicated one person was injured in Domodedovo by a fire in a private residence, and another sustained injuries on the M-4 highway when a drone crashed near a vehicle.

Russian state news agency TASS also reported that six individuals, including three foreigners, were hospitalized in the Moscow region with blast-related injuries. The hospital in Domodedovo received the six victims, who suffered varying degrees of injury. However, the exact cause of these injuries, whether directly related to the drone attack, remained unconfirmed. Domodedovo is a key southern district of Moscow, home to a major international airport. This escalation follows Ukraine's recent accusations of Russia launching one of its largest ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv, which resulted in casualties.
