Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has hailed the Professor Akin Oyebode Football Tournament as a crucial component of the state's sports development strategy, describing it as a structured pipeline for identifying and nurturing grassroots talent.

The tournament has grown steadily in scale and impact since its inception, illustrating how structured, community-led platforms can effectively complement government efforts in identifying, developing and sustaining grassroots talent pipelines.

Speaking at the tournament's final, held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Governor Oyebanji highlighted how such community-led initiatives effectively complement government efforts. The final match saw Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government clinch the male title after a penalty shootout, while Ado Local Government secured the female championship. The governor, represented by the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Stephen Aribasoye, commended the tournament's sponsor, Commissioner for Finance Akin Oyebode, for his dedication to youth and sports.

Oyebode, in his remarks, echoed the governor's sentiment, emphasizing a shared conviction that investing in the youth's confidence and capability is paramount. "To Jimoh Kudirat and every young talent on that pitch—your dreams are valid, and the world is bigger than this stadium. Keep working," he encouraged, underscoring the tournament's role in validating young aspirations and providing a platform for future professional careers.
