Oyo ADC Accuses State Govt of Illegal Billboard Removal, Cites Political Motives

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State has accused the state government of illegally removing the campaign billboard of its governorship candidate, Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke. The party's media team stated that the billboard, located at Idi-Ape Junction in Ibadan, was replaced with that of Governor Seyi Makinde and other candidates from the Allied People’s Movement (APM).

You cannot remove our principal and Atiku’s banner when we have legally paid the advert billboard’s agency. We are governed by law and illegal removal of our billboard is antithetical to peaceful coexistence and freedom of democracy.

According to the ADC, the removal was politically motivated, specifically targeting the presence of the ADC presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Adegoke's billboard. The party insists that Adegoke had legally paid for the billboard space until August 20, 2026, and had renewed the fee just a month prior to its alleged illegal removal in June.

The ADC warned the state government and Governor Makinde against such actions, emphasizing that the illegal removal of their billboard is contrary to democratic principles and peaceful coexistence. They asserted that the growing popularity of Adegoke and Abubakar in Oyo State would not be diminished by this act. The party questioned the political tactics employed, suggesting that Governor Makinde might be jittery about the ADC's prospects in the upcoming elections.

Governor Makinde should not be jittery. He should be ready to face the electorate. As far as Adegoke and Alhaji Atiku are concerned, they are sure of victory come 2027.
