Oyo Empire Day clelebration not to diminish history of other tribes –Alaafin

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has clarified that the upcoming Oyo Empire Day celebration in 2026 is not intended to diminish the historical significance of other tribes within Yorubaland and Nigeria. His remarks came during the inauguration of the Central Working Committee for the event in Oyo.

Oba Owoade emphasized that the celebration of the Oyo Empire's legacy should coexist with the recognition and respect for the histories of all ethnic groups. The establishment of the committee marks a significant step in organizing the event, which aims to commemorate the rich heritage of the Oyo Empire.
