Panama City enables online permits for cranes and lifting equipment

Developers in Panama City can now apply entirely online for permits covering cranes, forklifts and other lifting equipment used at construction sites.

The Directorate of Works and Construction said the service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Applicants can use any internet-connected device and no longer need to visit municipal offices.

To begin, users must register on the Alcaldía Digital platform with their taxpayer number and national identity card. They then select “Crane or forklift permit” and upload the required documents. The requirements follow Chapter XVII, Article 166 of Municipal Agreement 110, dated April 22, 2025.

The municipality said the digital system should speed up applications, reduce queues and limit the accumulation of paper documents. It also said applicants will be able to track each request electronically, improving efficiency, transparency and traceability.

The permits regulate the installation and operation of tower cranes, forklifts and other lifting equipment at construction projects in the capital district. The stated aim is to ensure that the activities comply with safety rules set by the Directorate of Works and Construction.
