Commission recommends awarding Panama and San Miguelito cable car project to Doppelmayr

The proposed cable car for Panama and San Miguelito has moved forward, but Doppelmayr Panamá Corp. has not yet secured the contract. A tender evaluation commission recommended the company for the project after finding that it met the requirements in the bidding documents.

The Metro of Panama said the recommendation came under the best-value procurement process identified as No. 2026-2-80-01-08-LV-000002. The decision still requires the administrative steps established by Panama’s Public Procurement Law and its regulations.

The planned system would cover approximately 6.6 kilometers and include six stations. It is intended to connect sectors of Panama and San Miguelito, including Samaria, Mano de Piedra, Valle de Urracá and Torrijos Carter.

The contract would cover the design, additional studies, construction, supply and installation of the system. It would also include integration, testing, certification, commissioning and operational handover, with a maintenance option. A key connection would link the cable car with Line 2 of the Panama Metro at Cincuentenario station. The route would extend to the interchange area between Cincuentenario Avenue and España Avenue.
