Panama's South Corridor to close for 31 hours for beam lifting

Panama's ENA Sur has rescheduled a temporary closure of the South Corridor between Paitilla and Costa del Este for Saturday, August 8. The closure, which will affect both directions, is necessary for lifting four large beams over the Marine Section as part of the Costa del Este and Hipódromo Interchange Expansion Project.

The interruption will begin at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, and last for 31 hours, concluding at 4:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10. This work was initially planned for the weekend of August 1-2 but was postponed by the concessionaire. The original plan involved lifting two beams, but the revised schedule includes four 53-meter structures.

ENA Sur explained that the complexity of the operation requires the temporary closure to ensure the safety of workers and drivers. Several access points will be closed, including the entrance from Ford of Costa del Este towards Paitilla, the Marine Section towards Paitilla, and various entrances from Balboa Avenue, Punta Paitilla, Via Israel, Panama Clinic, Punta Pacifica, and Xtra Market towards Tocumen.

However, certain access points will remain open. These include the exit from Costa del Este towards Tocumen, and entrances from Via Israel towards Paitilla, Coco del Mar towards Paitilla, Chanis towards Tocumen, and from Chanis via the Delta station to Ford of Costa del Este. ENA Sur urges drivers to plan their trips in advance, use the designated alternative routes, and follow temporary signage.
