Paraguay's MEC prepares for director exams by year-end

Paraguay's Ministry of Education and Sciences (MEC) is preparing to fill vacant positions for public school directors and supervisors through competitive exams scheduled for November. These exams aim to select candidates who will take on their roles in January and February, just before the 2027 academic year commences.

For supervisors, there are 110 vacant positions, according to the education portfolio's data, while there are 1,680 positions for directors of educational institutions available.

According to Silvio Piris, president of the Paraguayan Educators' Federation (FEP), there are 110 supervisor positions and 1,680 director positions available. The ministry intends to finalize the selection of educators for these roles before the upcoming school year begins.

Once they win the competitions, the directors and supervisors would take up their posts in January and February, before the start of the 2027 school year.

In addition to roles for directors and supervisors, the MEC will also conduct a public exam for teachers currently in the nation's eligible educator database. A key point of discussion remains whether interim teachers will receive priority in applying for their current positions or if the call will be open to all eligible candidates. Piris indicated that the process would involve eligible teachers applying online, with those possessing higher scores potentially securing their positions, provided they are currently serving as interim staff. However, these details are still subject to finalization.
