Paraguay sends over 50 tons of humanitarian aid to earthquake-hit Colombia

Paraguay has dispatched more than 50 tons of humanitarian aid to Colombia, consisting of medicines, medical supplies, and non-perishable food, in response to a devastating earthquake that struck the South American nation.

President Santiago Peña attended the departure of the aid from the First Air Brigade in Luque. He stated that Colombia is a "brother nation" with whom Paraguay shares a "history of deep friendship," and that in the face of adversity, they unite to offer support.

The aid is destined for Medellín and comes after an earthquake that, according to official data, has caused 294 deaths, 4,000 injuries, and left over 300 people missing. The disaster has also damaged infrastructure, including homes, health centers, and educational facilities.

This act of solidarity echoes historical ties between the two countries. During the War of the Triple Alliance (1865-1870), Colombia's Congress declared Paraguay a "brother people" in solidarity with the near-annihilation the country faced. "Every Paraguayan is Colombian," the congressmen decided at the time.
