Paraguayan Air Force athletes excel at national championship, qualify for Odesur Games

Athletes from the Paraguayan Air Force showcased strong performances at the National Athletics Championship held in Rosario, Argentina. The contingent secured their participation through official permission and financial backing from the institution, covering travel and competition expenses.

Among the standout athletes was Santina Wurth, who, despite not being a member of the armed forces, finished fifth in the 5,000 meters race with a personal best time of 16:55.09. This achievement meets the minimum qualifying standard set by the Paraguayan Athletics Federation for the 2026 Odesur Games, scheduled to take place in Santa Fe in 33 days.

Other notable performances included technical first-class vice-sergeant Andrés Fabián Agüero, who set a new personal record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:21. Technical first-class sergeant Ignacio Mareco also recorded a personal best, finishing the 5,000 meters in 15:46. Additionally, technical first-class vice-sergeant Minelly Ortiz completed the race in 18:30, also establishing a new personal best.

The Air Force expressed satisfaction with these results, underscoring their ongoing support for athletes in training and competition. The backing provided by General of the Air Julio Fullaondo and General of Division Air Roberto Idoyaga was instrumental in enabling the athletes' presence at this international event.
