Paraguayan Karting Driver Nelson Segovia Shines in Uruguay

Paraguayan karting driver Nelson Segovia delivered a standout performance at the fifth round of the National Rotax Max Challenge Uruguay 2026, held at the Kartódromo Internacional de Mercedes. This success reinforces his growing momentum, demonstrating that his strong showings in Brazil have translated effectively to the Uruguayan circuit, the same venue that will host the RMC International Trophy South America in October.

Segovia competed in two categories. In his official debut in the Mini Max class, he qualified impressively in third place. During the first race, he was locked in a fierce battle for the lead and was running in second when a mechanical failure caused his kart to lose its brakes, forcing him to retire. Undeterred, the young driver mounted a remarkable comeback in the second race. Starting from the back of the grid due to the previous day's retirement, he fought his way through the field to finish an outstanding third.

Although the combined results placed him seventh overall for the round, his performance clearly showcased his competitive level. Before the mechanical issue, Segovia was contending for the win in the first race. The following day, his recovery from last place to third demonstrated the pace and skill needed to challenge for top positions ahead of the South American Rotax Championship in October, which will be held on the same track.

In the Cadete category, Segovia also displayed exceptional form. After qualifying third, he won the first race and finished third in the second. The sum of these results earned him the round victory in the Cadete category. Adding to his success, he also won the Rookie classification within the Cadete category, a parallel championship recognizing debutant drivers. This capped off a highly successful weekend in Mercedes, confirming Segovia's rapid adaptation to the circuit that will host the South American Rotax Championship. His team's confidence is high as they look towards the year's most significant competition, where he aims to represent Paraguay in the pursuit of a spot at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals.
